October Read for the Budding Entrepreneur
Hello, Everyone!
I hope you are enjoying your Sunday, perhaps curled up with a
blanket and an interesting read. One of my favorite things to do is read
extensively, because there are not any commercials, and the knowledge learned
in books is irreplaceable.
I recently finished Bedros Keuilian's "Man Up: How to Cut the
Bullshit and Kick Ass in Business", and I can wholeheartedly say this has
to be one of my favorite reads. Not only is Keuilian incredibly relatable, but
he offers such a refreshing perspective on the reality of becoming an
entrepreneur. For any of you interested in owning a company by the time you are
thirty, I strongly urge you to get your hands on this read.
He starts off by clearly stating "six pillars" of
entrepreneurship, skills and mindsets that are paramount to succeed as a
company owner. Keuilian then goes into greater depth by delineating each
"pillar" in richer detail for the reader. Some of these
"pillars" include: effective communication skills, confidence in
oneself, and a regimented morning routine.
One line in the novel that particularly stood out to me was to
have a "fighter jet" mentality, and that you would want to hire
employees with that same "fighter jet" mentality. A "fighter
jet" mentality is one categorized by ambition, pride, and detail to one's
work.
Keuilian's novel is rich with indelible aphorisms, my favorite
being "If you wait to make a decision, or freeze up and refuse to make a
decision, a decision will be made for you- and it won't be in your favor"
(1386).
The latter quote is just one of the wonderful quotes Keuilian uses
to motivate readers to muster the courage up and become better versions of
themselves, even if your goal is not to become a company owner. You become a
better businessperson by being more decisive. I know that is one of the most
important things I learned from this book: do not hesitate to make any
decision.
Just do it.

Make sure you give "Man Up" a read. It is a favorite of
mine and I am certain it will become one of yours as well.
Have a blessed Sunday and I wish you all the best in your
professional endeavors.
Until next time,
Christine
